I'm a writer, DGC director & picture editor with 15+ years experience in the film & TV industry. I was raised in Fort McMurray by two English teachers, started my career in biosciences (as a fisheries biologist), made my first dramatic film when 16mm stock was chic, before getting my first industry gig at BookTV.
Since then, I've made a lot of documentaries and indie sci-fi; once drove a pink ambulance across the country on a poetry tour for a book I wrote. It's a wide-ranging career to date, but I'm currently focussed on writing books and scripts and directing film and TV.
My most recent film as writer/director is HYPERNOVA. I wrote & produced the sci-fi / horror film TIMEBOX which played numerous genre fests and premiered on CBC’s Canadian Reflections. My script for Jim Morrison's BONECRUSHER, a period-boxing film about the indomitable Sam Langford, recently won the DGC Short Film Award (and funding!) and premiered at the Boston Film Fest. Also got a sweet notice on The National. And this year, I'm writing all 12 episodes of CTV/CRAVE's EVOLVING VEGAN with Mena Massoud.
Directing-wise -- I directed and picture edited the dramatic sci-fi digital series HAPHEAD (IPF/Canal+), the award-winning sci-fi feature GHOSTS WITH SHIT JOBS, along with docs like the super-viral HOW INK IS MADE , THE MUSIC OF MADNESS and the just-released climate change doc CAPTURING CARBON.
I worked as a picture editor on the CSA-winning investigative news-documentary series 16x9 (GlobalTV) for several seasons, and directed multiple documentary series including: MADE IN TORONTO, Sportsnet’s CANADIAN CATHEDRALS, Maclean’s BEST RESTAURANT digital series, and BookTV’s 3-DAY NOVEL CONTEST.
I've also worked as a lumberjack, a professional fly fisherman and a director of photography. Like I said -- it's been a wide ranging career. I can't help it, love learning new things. But it always comes back to writing and creating new work.
I'm a Director member of the Directors Guild of Canada, and I live and work in Toronto. To get a sense of the things I work on, check out the directing, editing and writing sections below.
